Dazzling Arequipa

Moving up in altitude on the way to Arequipa...

The amazing view from the hostel's rooftop. Volcanoes surround Arequipa, this one may be El Misti, Pikchu Pikchu or Chachani. The Andes lie to the Northeast of the city, and it's moderate altitude (2,328 meters) makes it much cooler than Ica, but more temperate than Cusco.

Cozy, beautiful and friendly: Wayra River hostel, ran by another Alexandra.

Micro-bus culture is not confined to Lima!

Arriving at Arequipa's Plaza de Armas, the main Cathedral Square. As I mentioned in the Ica entry, this tower fell back in the earthquake of 2001.

The amount of pigeons here is astonishing, and even more shocking is the closeness between them and the people!

The same facade, a few hours later.

 Inside the cathedral.

Through the archway, which leads up a very commercial block in town.
